Lowik Pieters (ENG) (2022)

Researcher Circular Economy & Sustainability at the RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment)

Steven Boom (SV Aufschwung): “Lowik Pieters has explored several paths in his career. He started with Environmental Studies and added the bachelor German Language and Culture a year later. During this bachelor he studied for four months at the Freie Universität Berlin, where he did a minor in German Studies and Environmental Studies and received an Erasmus scholarship grant for it. At Humboldt University, he improved his skills in German while taking a C1 course. In 2017, he completed both bachelors. He then did a master’s degree in Industrial Ecology at Leiden University and TU Delft.

This versatility in knowledge also provides different work experiences. Currently he works as a full-time researcher at RIVM in the context of a circular economy and sustainability. His latest projects are about sustainability in healthcare in the Netherlands and social and sustainable public procurement. Although the RIVM in the Netherlands is primarily known as a center against corona, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment is generally committed to a healthy living environment, while advising and supporting local, national and international governments in achieving this goal. Furthermore, Lowik is Co-Founder of Evermore, a family tea, coffee and chocolate business that aims for a happy and transparent chain from farm to store.
